Grand Opening of Rafel Bestard with the Cultural Attaché of Spain in Mokum and high level networking – Tomorrow 23rd April 2016
AEPH is pleased to invite its members to the exhibition in Galerie Mokum Amsterdam, of the new works by Spanish painter Rafel Bestard. The Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of Spain to The Hague, Mr. Fernándo Fernández Aguayo will inaugurate the exhibition tomorrow Saturday 23rd April at 17hrs.
Bestard (Mallorca, 1967) obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1990 (University of Barcelona). Over the years he has won many awards including First Prize Biennial of Plastic Arts of the City of Albacete. Bestard comments on his work that “from my early days I wanted the paintings to reveal something: a special world in which absurdity gives way to rebelling against the narrow range of meanings in an increasingly more complex world. My work explores the relationship between fusion and fundamental opposites: Light and Shadow, Love and Death.”
Galerie Mokum, was founded in the early 1960’s. The gallery has been a critical site for the viewing of realism in Dutch painting, a position that strengthened the role realism continues to play in the larger Dutch art world. The gallery represents more than thirty artists, mainly Dutch and, in recent years has expanded its horizon and now represents a few well known realists from other countries.
